And Bork was rejected because of (Ted Kennedy's lies about) his judicial philosophy.

Interestingly it was during a break in the Bork hearings that Biden was forced to drop out of the presidential race over plagiarism accusations.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said Friday that he will vote in support of confirming Ketanji Brown Jackson to be a Supreme Court justice. Manchin's support essentially guarantees Jackson's confirmation to the court.

"After meeting with [Jackson], considering her record, and closely monitoring her testimony and questioning before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week, I have determined I intend to vote for her nomination to serve on the Supreme Court," Manchin said.

I don't think it was ever really in question. I am happy that the Rs seem like they are not going to pull the same partisan garbage the Ds did by boycotting the committee vote for Barrett.

The hatchet job on Ketanji Brown Jackson and Barrett was the same. Just the sides were flipped.

Let's see if they boycott like the Ds did.

Makes no difference one way or another.
Remember there was different things at play at that time. Pushing through a nominee when they blocked the D's in the same situation.

ETA: Just so we don't pretend the situation is the same.
"Senate Democrats boycotted the vote to advance Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination for a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court to the full Senate on Thursday, saying they will not give the process “further legitimacy” less than two weeks out from a presidential election that is already underway."

There are always different things at play. The one thing that remains consistent is that the partisanship of the Dems will always outdo that of the Rs by a few strides. All that happened here were a couple of dumb gotcha questions at hearings. ho-hum. The purpose of any hearing is to score points that a senator can use to raise their profile or get votes. None of that comes anywhere close to what they did at each and every Trump nomination. There was none of that here.

Not in this situation it is not even close. What the R's did was completely wrong on a scale we have not seen before.

I am not seeing that. I did not see anything different than has been at every hearing since I remember (and not only judicial ones)

I am talking about blocking the nominee because it was at the end of a term and then doing the exact opposite. That was wrong on a scale we have not seen before. I don't care which side you are on.

I would put it in the Jan 6 thread but no big deal to me.
Oops, yes it belongs there.

The question is are they doing their own thing?

We discussed it then and I disagree.
