so what card should I get that will be a primary?
Just stick with an AMEX and sign up for their $19/rental premium rental protection
I don't think it's possible any more to sign up for a US Diners Club card.

The insurance works in all states.
Signup may be restricted, but nothing that a quick temporary change of address couldn't take care of.

Correct, you'll be fine with the regular secondary coverage that AMEX provides.
Just remember that it doesn't work in all countries, like Israel.  For that you'll need a World Mastercard.

OK, I figured out by reading other posts that AMEX doesn't cover third-party liability. So is getting that from the rental company the best thing or are there alternatives?

Do you have your own car insurance?

Not really...which I guess is a plus, because then AMEX will be my "primary" without paying anything extra. Will getting liability insurance from Enterprise be a problem when using the Chabad Corporate, like others have mentioned?

Also, do all AMEX cards have free CDW? I ask because when I went to the following address, it didn't have Starwood listed:

I don't think it will be a problem, but YMMV.

Yes.

I read all the posts and im still slightly confused.

Im renting a car using chabad-im only 24.
i have my own car insurance.
I have many amexs.

Should i be getting any other insurance, such as the $19.00 one mentioned above? Or can i just use my regular car insurance as primary and my amex as secondary?

Are there any pros to getting another insurance?

So is it recomended to get another insurance and pay the 20 dollars a day? That tacks on another $140 for a week rental...

David:
if you have your own car insurance, it's probably worth signing up for amex premium, they become your primary and it's $20 for the entire rental, instead of buying CDW from the company for $15 a day.
(and if there's now damage by the timme you return, you can always pay with a non amex, and save that $20 also; they add it to the rental charge, not the authorization)

David said he has his own car insurance, should cover that (although it's a good idea to double check your policy, to be sure)
if he doesn't, then he should probably take supplemental liability from the rental company, and just use regular amex, not bother with the amex premium

Wow is all I can say

I never in my life paid for any ins on a rental that I didnt have to. So I did/do in Costa Rica and Israel where they make you take it. And yrs ago when it was mandatory in Cali

otherwise Never, then again I dont own a car (its in someone elses name) so my CC is Primary. and if something happens I say let them sue me they cant get what I dont have (or that isnt in my name that is).

then again I guess those of you with wives and kids at home dont want to take too many gambles. But LDW etc is usually just throwing the $$ away, especially those where they have a deductable of any where from $500-1000 anyway that you will pay out of your pocket.

Its pure profit for the Rental companies,IMO. Sort of like buying Flight ins that will pay only if you get killed or lose a limb (this isnt Med ins or Trip ins) pure profit and maybe thats why the machines arent to be found in the terms the way they used to be. Even thou it was only $1 it was $1 thrown away.

I have Declined checked off on everything with the Car Rental comps that I have a membership of some sorts with

i once called the enterprise near crown heights and they wanted some id proving that i work for chabad. but that was the only time it happened, i use this corporate all the time, all over the country no questions asked.
I know this is a new thread, but came across this while doing some research on car rental and coverage and thought I'd share my experience.

Abt. 2 year ago i made a reservation via phone @ the Enterprise near C.H. using the Chabad Corporate. When he asked me for the corporates address for verification I got all nervous and wasnt sure what to answer as i didnt know it was required. I figured it must be 770 or the shluchim office so i replied, "Im not sure but I think 770 E.P" to which he replied in a happy tone, "Yep, thats the one, and who's your grand leader?" to which i responded, "The Lubavitcher Rebbe"

When i arrived at the location he waited till the office was empty and he told me he once had a shvartze woman and another time had a guy on shabbos trying to use the chabad corporate insisting they were part of chabad. He told them that chabad was jewish and they dont rent on Saturdays. That was why he asked me for the address.
