HSBC Reward Points
« on: January 03, 2012, 09:52:00 PM »
I have about 100,000 HSBC reward points however their reward program isn’t the greatest in terms of value  :-[ . Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do with them? Would it make sense for me to cash them out at 1 cent per reward and use the proceeds to buy miles/points from a different credit card or carrier? If so which one(s)? Thanks

I was expecting someone to say i.e. "take the cash from HSBC or sell them to a 3rd party etc". I can't believe I didn't get any advice. I feel as these points are just wasting away and I don't know what do to with them.

How did you earn so many points with HSBC? They didn't have ANY sign up bonuses and it's a dollar for every point.  It seriously does suck. I have about 1430 points and wanna do something with it too!

well, i will offer some advise. myself and family members have had lots of HSBC point before and the best way to redeem them is to get $400 of your flight ticket for $24,000 points, so i would not advise to sell them for 1 cent per point. it is annoying to make the redemption, as you have to go through their special travel agency, but doable.

you can use multiple of these to cover the cost of expansive tickets. for instance, i made a redemption for a family member couple of years back that needed to fly to israel for emergency. the ticket cost $2000, but used $120K HSBC points...

I don't plan on using the HSBC card to get points since it's not worth it and will be hard to get so many points.

I only used it because that was the first card I got via my bank. Now I have better other cards and utilize those.

Thanks!

you have to call the customer service number on the back of your credit card, and once they verify your account, ask them to transfer you to the reward travel department. (please note they have a domestic and international desk).

Once you get to reward travel department, tell them you would like to redeem 24,000 point for $400 of travel, and they will give you rest of the details. Their prices are the same as the official prices of the airline, but you can't apply any discounts or specially published fares.

Hope this helps...

Just for the record

You can not use 25000 points for 400$ off international travel (only domestic)

What i'm doing to get rid of my pontis

they offer bonuses every few months, as spend 4200$ dollars and get an extra 7500 points

and thanks to BB VR MVD thats not a big deal
