Author Topic: Turkish Airlines/EWR-IST-TLV (Read 1667 times)

scheduled (business on points) to fly EWR-IST-TLV leaving EWR on a sunday at 11:40 PM. itinerary shows 1 hour 20 minutes layover for TLV flight. do I have a reasonable chance of making the connection? i imagine i'm stuck for the night if i miss. also does luggage need to go through security again? apologies if previously discussed...thanks

For the the way to TLV the risk isn't big as the planes usually land early in IST due to winds. But the return flight I find very risky.
Luggage goes straight through.

The risk partially depends on when the next flight is.

Is there any way i can get them linked up so I dont have to self transfer in IST?

My experience is that they will not hold a flight for you even if you are in business class. Just 3 weeks ago they promised me at the gate upon leaving TLV that we will catch up and I will make the connection. We arrived (3 passengers) 20 minutes before the flight to EWR took off and the gate was closed by the time we got there.
Flying with 2 separate tickets is a bad idea. They will not need to re-book if you missed the connection.

There are often dozens of pax on these connections, and I've seen planes held more than once.

I've seen that once, too, but, admittedly, that was over a decade ago (haven't flown them since really). And I guess it's really YMMV. Possibly depends if they have another flight flying soon anyways that has room for bumped pax.

I once had an IST-TLV flight held for a bunch of passengers connecting from MLE. It boils down to a numbers game (and ability to land/take-off without hitting restrictions).

3 reservations from TLV to EWR via IST.

Did they put you on the next flight? How long was your connection supposed to be in IST?
