Recycled Confirmation Nembers
« on: March 26, 2024, 01:05:11 AM »
I use this tool often https://www.united.com/en/us/fly/travel/credit.html to find credits by email. Today I got an email through this with a credit in a random persons name. Knowing that I haven’t sold any such credits, I reached out to United, who admitted in writing that the Confirmation number was recycled after having expired some time after my trip and/or my credit being used up/expiring but still associated my email in the system with that confirmation number. Sounds a bit scary to me now that I have this info and their name. Also leads one not to assume all credits are just connected to your email and not to keep track of them, they may end up by someone else.

Overall seems at the very least scary, lousy and irresponsible of United.

Any thoughts on this?

Every system reuses confirmations
That's why it ask for your last name at minimum
Did someone on the new one share a last name?

Read the post thoroughly, by requesting all FFC and ETC linked to your email using the tool above, I’ve received someone else’s FFC, which if you’ve ever used said tool you’d know that it includes names in the emails. The issue is that my email is (this is where the problem is) still connected to the confirmation number. Obviously, the issue isn’t recycling alone but that it isn’t washed before reuse. Hence being a United issue to my knowledge. I now have a conf number, last name, partial ffc and booked (or by now flown) itinerary.

Got it
Not a UA fan so not familiar with that
Any other airlines have that option?
