google closing down 3rd party access
« on: March 04, 2022, 08:25:21 AM »
whats the deal with this???

On May 30, you may lose access to apps that are using less secure sign-in technology

To help keep your account secure, Google will no longer support the use of third-party apps or devices which ask you to sign in to your Google Account using only your username and password. Instead, you’ll need to sign in using Sign in with Google or other more secure technologies, like OAuth 2.0. Learn more

What do you need to do?

Email software, like Outlook 2016 or earlier, has less secure access to your Gmail. Switch to Office 365, Outlook 2019 or newer, or any other email software where you can sign in using Sign in with Google.

Seems like flip phones like the Kyocera Cadence and LG Exalt will also lose email support... :(

basically apps that cant redirect and take the response from google will stop working, they have an API that can be used by 3rd party to get permission to use your account without taking your password

To Allow less secure apps? Or to create app specific password?

Guess I'm not the only one. Create app specific passwords.

Gmail started requiring 2 step authentication and an app specific password for 3rd party connections.

https://myaccount.google.com/signinoptions/two-step-verification/enroll-welcome

Once you have it enabled

https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords

Put in your password.

Then by the app drop down put in "other" and put in a name and click generate.

Just copy and paste that password into your application.

You will only see this password one time.
