Is there any way they would transfer the warranty to a new computer? Or is a warranty serial-number specific and cannot be transferred?

I know someone that had basic warranty on a Lenovo. Started having issues and needed to send in, immediately upgraded to full service warranty where they come to you to fix it.
Still had issues, eventually he told them this is enough, and they gave him an allowance to get a new computer from their site.
I think the warranty he purchased carried over

They gave me a free courtesy one-time upgrade to onsite repairs.
