seems like a great deal. should I just pull the trigger on this? $600 still seems like a crazy amount to spend on a coffee machine, especially since it would be replacing my melita which costs pennies per coffee
Now$800. Might solve your dilemma

Try cold brewing at home. You have to put a little time in to make each pitcher, but when you actually want a cup it's super quick. And cold brew just tastes great. It probably takes me 5 minutes to make a large pitcher (including grinding the beans and cleanup) which lasts my wife an I about a week, and 30 seconds to put together a cup of coffee each morning.

That's what I'm currently doing for iced coffee. It's great. Key is to run it through a coffee filter to get the dredge out

I grind as coarse as possible and then use this filter (have also used this one in the past) to brew in. No issues with dredge - very clean brew even without using a coffee filter.

My parents have the K-Cafe, and my office switched over to Flavia. Both make passable lattes, but I doubt either compares to anything like the Philips posted upthread.

I use this pitcher. Maybe the filter screen is not fine enough. I also use medium grind (Kirkland pre-ground) but soak for 12 hours instead of 24

Between the filter and the grind size, I could definitely see a reason for more sludge.
