United does this too, on some routes. For longer routes as well, (Vail, Colorado, I believe is one).

I just noticed MKE-ORD has multiple flights by UA/AA, even though flight time is similar to driving

I read that they put you through security before getting on the bus and you're let off at a special spot that puts you right into the terminal. So I would think that yes, skipping the bus would be like skipping a flight.
