As well as very high margins meaning they can afford to drop prices significantly and just not make a profit until the economy picks up. The new EV tax credit definitely helps as well. They can also offer the SR MY which would be a lot cheaper than the current cheapest MY option.

That's true, but there is a very obvious reason for that. The upcoming EV tax credit meant everyone was trying to push off their delivery until next year, so Tesla matched the tax credit for the remainder of the year.

These are delivery deferrals, not unsold inventory.

My understanding was more about people trying to defer delivery until early 2023 for tax credits and Tesla trying to hit unit projections for 2022 (they’re almost certainly gonna miss them even with the $7500 discounts they’re handing out).

People holding off for a month means Tesla has so much extra inventory and high chance of bankruptcy? This is more similar to the Black Friday sales that every year starts a week earlier than the previous because customers don’t want to purchase anything until BF.

In that case we can also dump Amazon, Walmart, and just about every business that makes a year end sale.
