Can he borrow that much? This is like 1/6 of his net worth. Even if Tesla stock remains stable, he’d have to sell shares regularly to pay the interest on that loan, and incur huge capital gains tax liabilities in the process.
Interest is less than 1% and he can keep pledging shares to borrow for it. The whole thing makes sense just for the appreciation in Twitter value with his name attached.

In the long run IMHO he is making a big mistake by pursuing publicity - ׳אל תתוודע לרשות׳ . Just look how Trump is bogged down with legal headaches

Some would say, look how Trump capitalized on his fame to become president of the U.S. and one of the most popular (and simultaneously unpopular) people in the world.

Legal shmegal, he’s been constantly harassed for the last 6 years in Federal and State systems and there’s nothing anyone has to show for it. He has a few lawyers being kept busy but he’s doing just fine.

2050 prediction: There will be better odds of Elon Musk becoming supreme leader of planet earth than the US president.

At 80 years old? Maybe not such a kasha these days. But planet earth? He's more likely to be a legal resident of Mars at that point (for tax reasons)

He likes to make hype, but his agenda here is political, he has an issue with Twitter governance and free speech policies, the buzz/hype is icing on the cake

Not necessarily true. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1318605/000156459021045926/tsla-def14a_20210826.htm#PLEDGING_SHARES

I really question how he’d get the money without bringing in outside investors.

Who said he won't bring in outside investors?

Who? It’s not like he runs a PE or VC shop? And a strategic certainly doesn’t need him.

So where’s he getting 10s of billions from if can’t put it up himself and can’t borrow it?

I'm sure plenty of funds would invest with him. I'm not sure why you're so sceptical.

2050: Given his straightforward readiness to embrace anything he comes across and thinks is right, Elon Muskowitz will be a Yerushalmi Jew living in obscurity in Me'eh Shearim.

Okay, which ones? I’m not aware of a funds that would write 10 billion dollar checks (and you would need multiple funds to get to the necessary cash).

I work in the space and all the funds I’ve seen have limitations on the size of a particular investment so no fund is calling all their capital to hand it over to Elon. Besides, if you can’t use leverage, it would absolutely kill their returns. And for what, Twitter??

The only possible way I see is to get one of the Middle East sovereign wealth funds (who actually can write a 50 billion dollar check) but the chances of that happening are laughable.

Why? Trump basically lost because of his using Twitter.

Apparently, an LBO is possible, which opens the door for PE money. https://www.ft.com/content/c52aea67-9e6a-4e04-adc2-744bc4e0b738
