If nothing else, this sentence is ridiculous "he sold 20,000 branded flamethrowers to make a joke about flamethrowers, and also founded Boring Co. to make a joke () about tunnels" he made money on the flamethrowers and the boring company is not a joke.Elon doesn't think like most normal people, so while he has crazy ideas he is completely serious about them.
