The fact that she is currently covered is not an issue, they will just make jerseycare cover as a secondary. The fact that she was a dependant on the most recent tax return might be an issue
If you tell JC that you have insurance, you will be denied (except for the instances that churn pointed out).

If you do not tell JC that you have insurance, and then get approved, then you can call UC and tell them you have a primary insurance.

This is from the jersey family care website: http://www.njfamilycare.org/q_and_a.aspx#5

Is this rule only for family care not "jersey care"?
JC = FC

medicaid?
FWIU, official name for the program is NJ FamilyCare. Colloquially, people call it Jerseycare. When you say either one, you usually refer to the HMO, such as UnitedHealthCare, which covers almost all coverage you get from JC. You also get Medicaid which covers almost nothing by itself.

IME There are instances where the county office tells you " you are not eligible through the county, we are referring you to the state" What does this mean?

I'm not sure. It could be that even though it's a state program, each county agency handles its own approvals, and each one has different rules for who is eligible, perhaps based on the average income level in that county. Whereas the state agency has no such restriction, and can approve you even if your county can't.
But that's all just speculation.

You are correct.  It used to be there were differences regarding benefits.  Now with the new healthcare law it should not matter.

It was always like that, but I think now with Obamacare everyone can get onto plan A.
Thats why parents have dental now.

This is from the Jersey care site
Quote
Beginning October 1, 2013, financial eligibility for individuals seeking eligibility for NJ FamilyCare will based on their Modified Adjusted Gross Income or MAGI. This means the income and household size will be determined by their latest federal tax return which when filed, can be electronically verified. This new Tax Based Household size provides a simplified income calculation. Before, income was counted for parents/guardians and children up to age 21 that were living in the household and in some cases counted earned and unearned income separately.

Can anyone confirm that in practice, when applying through the state they actually only look at last years tax return?

As opposed to also requesting bank statements? Then yes, I can confirm.

Yes you need that as well.
But on the site it says that they legally are only supposed to look at last years MAGI on the tax return. You think I could say that im not required etc?

Try without it and see if they request it. I may have needed for a separate issue.

Are you already in the process of renewing? Or are you anticipating a renewal?
There will be no new renewals until Jan 1 2015. After that all the new rules will probably be in place, and all you'll need is a tax return.

No renewals means that even if its time for you to renew you should do nothing and just stay on till Jan?

I am also anticipating a change in income, would I need to report it? Its not going to be on my return till I file 2014..
