Anyone have any idea how long I should expect to wait to hear from them after applying (to the county), and is there anything I should/could be doing to ensure they are processing my application? TIA

Call and make sure they have all the necessary paperwork. This won’t actually speed things up but can help insure it doesn’t take extra time

Keep copies of everything, send registered mail, and finally, go sit in the office with your paperwork untill someone takes it if you're really concerned.

Just as an update (if useful for anyone else), I went down to the office (OC board of Social Services) about 10 days after mailing and it was good I did. They couldnt find me in the computer and said that was weird as they should have processed the app in. Anyways after a half hour they found it somewhere in the mail room or something. I think that also speeded up the process, because three days later I got the answer in the mail....

I see on the website njfamilycare.org website that there are 5 different insurance companies that are available for Medicaid. Aetna, amerigroup, horizon, UHC, and wellcare.

Which company is the best one for a single adult to apply for? I see there is something going on with UHC now although I'm not clear if it would affect a single adult.

First ask your doctor which one/s they take.

Thanks for the response. Why do you think they're the best? I was going to use them because I've had good experiences with them in NY.

I don't have any doctors in Lakewood yet.

So call a few that you might want to use and find out what they take.

Has the best coverage for Drs and hospitals. Unless you need something specific etc

Does anyone know about how long after you report a change of income should you expect a response?

Could be 2 weeks or as long as 6 months. Just be sure that they received your letter
