mixture of both.

I don't know exactly but I have heard stories. But no kosher grocery can survive (or wine store) without kayco, and they know that.

Your complaints are overly generalized. Kayco is one issue;  kosher stores are a completely different issue.

we are being forced to shop their since we keep kosher. I do not feel like that's a reason to charge more.

Most of our shopping is not done in kosher stores outside of meat, bakery items, and other select items because we're not fans of the quality and price of their products. I live less than a minute from 2 kosher stores. When we need something immidiately, they present an unparalleled value. Who is forcing you to shop at Handler Yossel's instead of Trader Joe's?

we keep kosher so we  have to shop in a kosher store. Non Jewish stores have to be competitive since you would go elsewhere.

Jewish stores know we have to come there so they rip us off on the other items as well

There are plenty of items that are cheaper in Jewish stores. Take disposables for example.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

and besides disposables? Reason being its a very easy item to import so lots of competiton. No hashgacha needed etc non Jewish doesn't use it in the same way as us.

I do agree with you. My wife doesn't always agree tho:)

All the non Jewish stores closed down were I live in Monsey since the property's were purchased by Jews.

Ding ding ding

If the stores were "ripping us off", they would do that on disposables as well. But they're operating like any other business. They charge you a markup that is in line with the industry. If store A ripped you off on produce, store B would come in with cheaper produce and A would be toast. Because frum families use way more disposables than the average US family, the kosher stores get their merchandise for cheaper, and the price is passed on to consumers. Not that they're giving us charity, their markup still leaves the price below the chain stores.

@ya where do u live? Just wondering.
I believe this conversation started in Lakewood (although not sure if you were involved at that point on the othere thread). If so, just go out of town or 5towns and then go back home. You will never complain again.

store B on most items can not come in cheaper since they are buying from the same distributor/manufacturer. I guess they figure you are coming in for the meat and gefen items might as well charge crazy amounts on produce or other since you will purchase it anyway due to "convenience"

Monsey. Go to Lakewood often.

I grow up in 5 towns. You think 5 towns is a free market?

Growing up you liekly had Brachs. They were very decently priced. For the past ~10 years,  it's been strictly GG/KolSave, Seasons, and Frankels. BH Bingo is coming to town.
Head over to the 5T/FR thread for a full update and thread of grocery complaints.

You're all over the place. First the stores are ripping us off, then when that gets questioned, you come up with a monopoly theory. The latter is actually valid, IMHO. But you lose people when you complain about people ripping you off when they are doing no such thing.

I am all over the place. But I think we are getting ripped off from a bunch of different places.

I don't think we have a free and open market. Not exactly sure on th details but something is wrong.

kosher items? What do you consider over priced. Who decides the baseline price?

Also I don't know why fresh salmon is over 50% more in kosher stores
