$8.99 for fresh salmon? Kosher stores in Monsey is $15+

Most items are more expensive then non Jewish stores for similar items

I've seen that on YT specials. I usually buy salmon filets at Jetro. Picked up a case today for $6.79/lb (less than case price was 7.99/lb).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

How can one know if the cutting utensils weren't used for other seafood? I'm contemplating buying salmon sides at Costco for a while already but that's my instinct concern. I know גרידה בחודו של סכין would be good enough but that's a hassle. Very possible there should be no issue at all, I waana hear. @aygart ?

The Rema is matir because of the volume of lemons so the bliyos in the knife gets botul. Here I don't know the quantity of seafood vs salmon, how many knives they use etc. I'm just unclear of the metzius.
(IIRC the P"T talks of fish and mentions גרידה בחודו של סכין should suffice)

1. The whole sides are made in a factory and should be okay no matter what as long as you see scales.

Assuming the factories process each sea species independently?

$15+ for the cheapest Chilean salmon? Or are they carrying a higher quality fish?

Most "salmon" filets sold today in frum fish stores are Steelhead Trout and they call it "Baby salmon".

Not in Lakewood. Mostly salmon with some “baby salmon” clearly marked. ShopRite is $7.99 this week for salmon BTW.

Wait, what?

Steelhead is less fatty and therefor less "fishy". The trend started a few years ago when the expert cook ladies decided it's a better alternative to regular salmon. Google too has some nice things to say about Steelhead.
I remember when people used to ask always for baby salmon and since then it outnumbered regular salmon to the point where you need to ask for regular salmon specifically. I can't vouch for all neighborhoods though that this is always the case. Aderabeh, ask your wives and report back :)

(Eta, most people are not aware that "baby salmon" is just a given term for a different breed just because it comes in sleeker cuts, they genuinely believe it's juvenile regular salmon that didn't develop yet the full strong "fishiness"... Not that it makes any difference.)

While I follow this practice and buy also without a Hechsher, often there is a Hechsher. For example today there was also Norwegian Salmon for 8.99/lb (no discount for full cases) with a Hechsher.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Beware of wild caught salmon, more often might have תולעים (less common in farmed salmon).
