Interestingly, I've heard from an insider that Smith will never actually vote against his party if he's the deciding vote on a major partisan bill. And that he had "permission" from the party to vote against repealing Obamacare, because his vote was not a deciding vote.

If this is true, it sort of negates the "puts constituents over party" claim that he always makes, but at the same time, it can be a reason to vote for him without worrying that he'll be the cause for the overturn of Conservative legislation.

Bottom line, he's a politician, just like the rest of them. But he also has influence because of his seniority, and he has helped many people in the community over the last years. (Like to get stimulus checks and Unemployment during Covid.)
That's a very interesting point that I've never heard about.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Why do you say that? He can be the deciding vote on something big.

According to my insider, he won't do that. He is not ready to screw his party.

Vance was on the map long before Trump endorsed him. He got the ten point boost from him. This whole primary was a race to the bottom and a clown car.

Don't know, but did his vote either way change the results?

Politicians are not talking heads, their vote actually matters.

It's more than just their vote that matters. They have influence on what the bills look like before they are brought to a vote as well.

Having said that, slightly less conservative legislation is a small price to pay for a congressperson who actually serves his constituents

Trump's stranglehold on the party is real. Vance had no shot before he landed his endorsement.

Trump's stranglehold on the party is real.

Apparently not. I wonder if the distinction will be between races in which he endorsed to further a personal vendetta (GA gov, SOS) vs more general endorsements.
