Now that the story has gotten the coverage it has, I'm also not sure what value there is in keeping at it, but I'm curious to hear your reasoning.
There is another angle I'm interested in aside from the actual story, coverage by Jewish media. The "mainstream" Jewish outlets did not cover the story until Dan posted the video. Despite numerous pictures and stories going around the frum hack sites, like YWN, and all over Whatsapp, none of them did any digging into the story. They've covered stories that were born of frum sites and social media before, but this one was dismissed. Without any reason provided, I can only make assumptions, and that is because it was "whiny Chassidim not following rules and then complaining when they suffer consequences."
Most stories are not worthy of MSM coverage. This one was. But the way MSM finds out is when it gets reported by the smaller outlets. How the smaller outlets frame the story will go a long way in how the story gets framed. So long as Chassidim and frum Jews are viewed as petulant children, our stories will be portrayed as such to the world. Yes, we have to behave in accordance with how Torah wants us to, with derech eretz, respect for others, vechulu veda"l. But it's not up to the journalists to generalize and stereotype us based on the (mis)behavior of some, and we should be reported on and treated with respect and dignity.
