Tough call. I never had any bad experience with LH and their service is so much better than the American carrier's standards. There are many avid travelers here so lets wait for their experiences.

Funny. I first thought that’s what he meant, but then decided this specific OP was more likely to be referring to an actual recent aviation event.

There are anti-semites everywhere, should we just leave the planet and colonize Mars?

Have them leave the planet and colonize Mars.  :P

On a serious note, I meant that in Europe they have no compunctions about discriminating in such an institutionalized fashion. They'll blame it on this or on that, but it still gives them no excuse to discriminate against all members based on the actions of a few, and the fact that they can view it that way, and get away with it there, shows that they have a serious problem there.

Yup, one German already working on it

I agree with your serious note, but I’m not sure it’s realistic to blanket-avoid Europe.

This part wasn't fully serious, either. I have relatives there, too, and am planning on being there in the summer, IYH.

Same IYH. In theory you can fly US carriers to European destinations they serve.

That is my plan (waiting for prices to drop still).

That depends on the destination, some are still dirt cheap compared to pre-COVID summer fares.

ZRH. Prices hovering around $1,100 in economy. Pre Covid was around $700. Sometimes can drop as low as $500. I once got a HT for $349 summer dates back in the pre basic economy days.  Now they have the gall to charge over $1,000 for basic economy. Transatlantic basic economy should be capped at $500. If you want to sell for more, don't sell basic economy at all, it should be economy only,

OSL (my use case) SAS NYC-OSL can be had for less than $800, $500-600 on Norse Atlantic. OSL-NYC can be had on SAS for the same as Norse Atlantic if you cherry pick the dates, and a few dollars higher for a fair amount of dates throughout the summer.

ZRH doesn't have any direct competition from other European or LCC carriers like some other European capitals do. The US carriers aren't a part of the equation as they're typically alliance/code-share partners with the European flag carrier on that route.

Once you're looking into economy there should always be availability with miles, no?

There isn't for the last couple of months already. And even if there is, I would typically wait until it's $700 and use Amex MR with biz plat at 1.5=45,550 vs United miles at 60k RT plus $60 in taxes. Even at $850 it's 55,250 all in (not counting the miles I'm getting for flying. If it was one ticket I wouldn't care paying the taxes, but for a family BH....
