Is Starwood Preferred Guest still the best cc?
« on: June 11, 2008, 12:58:56 PM »
In November 2006, Dan posted a piece about why the SPG CC is the best all around card (http://ctownbochur.blogspot.com/2006/11/clarification-on-what-makes-starwood.html).  I'm wondering if that's still the general consensus, or if there's something even better these days.  Also, how long does it take to transfer points from SPG to AA Advantage or other airline programs?  Is there a fee?

Thanks

Absolutely,
No other credit card gives you literally dozens of incredible uses for points, and the 25% mileage bonus simply can't be beat!  Plus it comes with a year free, so its great to churn and get more Starpoints while never paying an annual fee.

Having said that, I have switched my gas/cell phone purchases over to the AMEX Simply Cash card.  Getting 5% automatic cash back (.20 off per gallon of gas!) is just too compelling...

Dan, I understand that the two best credit cards out there are both American Express but how about for those of us that are not as fortunate to have an Amex card due to F/R  What would you recomend?

I think it takes about a week, depending on what day you initiate the transfer.
There is no fee.

Having said that, I can think of many better uses for Starpoints than AAdvantage miles...

Whats the best thing you can do with starwoods points? Don't you get the most for your money when you transfer to an airline?
Also about churning points. What do you have to do in order not to ruin your credit line?

Open any other consumer or business AMEX and you'll be able to shift the credit lines between all of your AMEX's as you please online.
