Is your Pilot really a Pilot

Read this story about LIFT’s approach to the pilot shortage by legislating the possibility of lowering the training hour requirements. Having seen other fields where training requirements are cut to facility “greater access” and the subsequent safety issues that develop, I am really cautious about this becoming a race to the bottom as corporate airlines elect to employ undertrained pilots in order to pay less to them.

Curious what others take is.

We just saw a passenger with no flying experience land a plane successfully, so I'm all for it. When the crew asks the exit row passengers if they will be able to handle opening the exit door, they can also ask which passengers are comfortable with flying the plane with instructions radioed in. Maybe you even get a few bonus miles if you are the volunteer pilot. I don't see any downside.

I think many passengers will see a lot of downside pretty quickly ;D

These puns are losing altitude and spinning out of control pretty quickly.

Looking out the cockpit windows, you only start seeing the downside once you’re in a nosedive…

You may soon start seeing signs on BMG's bulletin boards:

"L'toeles harabim: if you are ever flying and it starting pushing down, you have to be mevatel the auto-stabilizer and use koach gavra. Also, if the fuel runs out on one side and you think it's leaking, make sure to close the tzinor between the tanks so you don't run out of gas."

1,500 hours is a new requirement, it used to be 250 before the Colgan Air crash.
That crash had nothing to do with pilot experience, but it was a convenient scapegoat to get the hours raised. Sort of like banning shidduch pictures because of COVID.

So no, I don't care if they decrease the hours to 750.

Based on the "hardest to stop reading thread" that was linked here goes ago, ama witha delta pilot,
The pains, and hoops that one has to juno through to become a commercial pilot is crazy. Either the air force, or go as far as paying to use planes to gain hours, or make next to no money

And you would think it's a very well paying job, and it's really not until you work for 20 years.

There was a plane that crashed near buffalo a few years ago. They blamed it on pilot fatigue, not lack of training. He was flying more than he should have because there was a shortage. So I'd rather more pilots with slightly less training than tired pilots

It certainly could have :)
It is time to get my pet peeve project pushed through thanks to a tragedy o'clock?
It's incredible that the spread of Coronavirus just so happens to be caused by all the things I personally disapproved of before the virus existed.

It’s enough of a stretch to say that COVID was caused by all the things you disapproved of, it’s a stretch sheb’stretch to say that COVID caused those pet peeves to be resolved.
