Flat tire on rental...now what?
« on: May 17, 2022, 12:02:11 AM »
I woke up to a flat tire so put the full size spare on. what's my next step? Do I plug the tire or just return the car as is?

yes
just return the car as is?
you'll likely be fine but the former is inexpensive and less potential issues

Pay for the rental with a CC that has primary coverage, worst case you get charged they’ll
cover it? Assuming they cover flat tires.

the cost of a plug/patch is so cheap, it's not worth the hassle

I actually called them but they said it would be about 3 hours so I just put the spare on myself

Just pump it up and hope it stays inflated until after you return the car. That's what they guy before you did...

Time?
unless your really tight on time, I think most areas have tire shops that will do it on the spot. Should take no more than 15 min

Why can't he just tell the return agent that the tire went flat and he changed it.  And here is the flat one.

Time?

The question is time vs what other option. It takes longer to plug the tire than to return it with a flat, but compared to any options that involves fixing the tire, e.g. roadside assistance or going to a tire shop, the DIY plug is a time saver

correct. But as pointed above, if there is a damage waiver from the CC or anything else, wouldn't that cover? Just return it, and if they charge for it use the card benefits.

Maybe in a metro area .

Here it was an hour and 50 bucks. I still think it's worth it because now I don't have to deal with anything later unless I decide to submit the receipt to the rental company

The only card I'm aware of that covers flats is CSR.

$50 for a plug? In Lakewood you can get one for $10-15.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.
