Best deal on VPN? VPNUnlimited, VeePN, Urban-VPN
« on: June 02, 2022, 02:18:34 PM »
A few years ago I got a discounted 3 year subscription to SurfShark, which served me well as an occasional user. When renewal time came, I decide not renew until the next time I need a VPN.

Looking for the best deal I came across Urban-VPN.com which is totally free (what am I giving up in return?)

VPNUnlimited which seems to have an unbelievable deal in $99 for a lifetime subscription (though I have had bad experience in the past with other companies that offered great lifetime deals, and then discontinued the service).

VeePN.com offers 5 years for $99 which also seems like a decent price.

Any experience with any of those? Are they legit? To what extent do they allow server location (I know Urban-VPN.com doesn't let you pick a specific US state, like SurfShark does, I don't know about the others).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Lifetime subscription for VPN isn’t a sustainable business model, and becomes a Ponzi scheme as it scales up.

Or they lock in grandfathered accounts, and offer other subscription options (they do now)

VPNUnlimited is based in Ukraine and Ukrainian employees, so they had some service issues since the war started.

Isn't protonVPN free and unlimited, only with certain limitations?
It might not be an issue for what you need

100+ servers in 3 countries (US, NL, JP)

Helps when outside US needing US ip, but not the other way around (unless specific need is NL or JP).

Is ProtonVPN any good?

Paid version is considered very good. The free version is quite limited.

FWIW DOC has a post about a US based VPN called Private Internet Access that has an effective price of $0.
