Here are my thoughts on Pride of the Farm ice cream.

It's excellent, but it has it's time and place. Not necessarily my across the board favorite.

Best comparison I could think of is mayo. (please don't gag...) Hellman's mayo is light and creamy, with a very light taste. Jewish brands are much heavier and more intense, with a more distinctive flavor. (My wife likes to call the Jewish ones "dips".)

POTF is like Jewish mayo. It's heavy, with an intense milky flavor. That is great, but I can understand if an ice cream purist would rather something a little more subtle. Just like a chocolatier would appreciate a pure chocolate - POTF is like the super sweet, overly milky (albeit yum) chocolate.

So yes, I buy POTF most of the time, but there are times when I opt for a more subtle alternative.

If I had to pick one that was my all-time favorite, the Klein's Vanilla in the box tops my chart. I'm not sure if they make it anymore. For some reason, it lost some of it's greatness when they started packaging them in round tubs.

I think this went directly to disected frog with no joke in the middle.

You can get it in South FL now. Stefano's in Coral Springs always has.

An out of town place where, like all out of town places, the locals think they have the greatest donuts/meat/bakery/etc.

To answer the OPs question, I can't say this with any authority, but I've heard from many people who eat C"S that Mitchell's Ice Cream in CLE is the GOAT.

If you're ok with OU-D and in NY/NJ, pick up a pint of Blue Marble Ice Cream (sea salt caramel is my favorite or the more hard to find strawberry). I've purchased it from Whole Foods and Fresh Direct, they have a small scoop shop in Cobble Hill (or nearby, I forget) where they have a bigger variety of flavors but kashrus is questionable since they started selling additional non-kosher food.

Blows all ice cream I've ever had, C"Y, C"S or otherwise out of the water. It's smooth and creamy, no cloying sweetness, real flavor, real fruits- not artificial. Very pricey, but very worth it. Kind of ruined commercial ice cream for me...

If limiting to C"Y, everything besides for POTF (and even some POTF flavors) is not even worth the calories.

1.POF is kosher run that uses Kreider Farms in PA. contrary to what most think its a small farm with limited production capabilities. The reason its not popular in NY is logistics, so for milk it probably isnt worth the trip for milk that expires quickly.

2. The big box stores get delivery directly from kreider. The POF truck (which is unmarked) is for small deliveries around town.

3. The one chain in lkwd that doesnt carry it is bec they used to be a partner and had a fallout many years ago.

IIRC has something to do with the Regional Milk pool associations. Kreider would have to pay extra fees to distribute in NY.

Tuscanini gelato is a high end ice cream selling at 7 bucks for a sixteen ounce container.

Huh? That's pretty much the price already.
You see people buying sourdough challohs everywhere for $15-20. That's why all bakeries started selling. People spend money on anything. Make it quality and people will buy.
