What time did this event start? Do people from Lakewood not go to bed until well after midnight? Is that the norm there? Even if I lived somewhat nearby, I don't think I would attend as I can't imagine getting into bed so late (1am? 2am?..), especially on a Sunday night. It would kill my entire week.

LOL I wish that was true. Unfortunately its not.  I usually have to work through the night Thursday nights. But BH for shabbos I catch up on my sleep. If I had to be up like that the first part of the week, it would be a disaster for me.
Regarding it being a daily event, do they not care that thousands of people will be going to sleep super duper late? Why start at 8:30? I'm sure plenty of people traveled from even further than Lakewood. They couldn't start earlier? As much it they are rightfully giving kavod hatorah, how many hours of bittul torah will there be in the coming week because people are overtired? Or maybe it should have been during bein hazmanin?

What time did they start? When Shlomo Shor said it was about to start at 8:20, was that the scheduled time or actual start time? If former, it's even more mind blowing for me.
