Citifield had the litvishe rabbanim talking about using the internet with gedarim when necessary and the chassidishe rabbanim calling it chazer and yeihareig v’al ya’avor and rabbi Waxman summing it up by saying that by gathering together klal yisroel made a kabbala. No one knew which kabbala. Hence the need for separate events became obvious.

But from my understanding the event isn’t about imposing standards or creating awareness but for inspiration, and if that’s the case the reason above shouldn’t matter.

Rav Herschel Shachter and the like weren't part of the speech scene back then and not this time either. We're talking of Lakewood yeshivish style speeches together with the chassidish which aren't so different when it comes to inspiration about technology. Also, there is no rebbe speeches for women. Think about Reb Nchemya Gotleib, Reb Ephraim Waxman, Reb Berl Tauber etc. who can easily appeal to both demographics.

It was a chassidishe event, but it's more of an outgrowth of the asifa culture that has picked up in Lakewood over the past number of years. (I feel like that came from EY)
