while that is the official rule no one asked for one.

United asked me for the form, I believe they would have made me do it on the spot if I didn't have it

Flew Saturday night with El Al.
Arrived at 9:40 PM for 12:30 AM flight.
Line for check-in was enormous. It took us almost an hour & a half to check-in.
Was left with only 20 minutes before the official boarding time.

https://www.shemesh.co.il/en/highlights/plans-to-shorten-lines-at-ben-gurion-airport-digital-check-in-to-be-introduced/about

Sun, Aug 21 2022, 1:00 PM

The Airports Authority has announced that it is working to go digital in 2023 - a move that is expected to shorten the long lines for check-in and eliminate the initial security check.

More than 10 million travelers have experienced long lines waiting to check-in for flights since the start of this year. Now the Airports Authority has announced that it is working to introduce digital check-in.

According to the Airports Authority, digitization at the airport will make it possible to manage departures abroad through independent procedures, "Touch and Play". The Director General of the Airports Authority,Hagai Topolansky, a recommendation to allocate over NIS 50 million to the digital field project. The Authority will launch new kiosks for the passengers' own use, an investment of over NIS 2 million in the first phase - where passengers will be able to weigh their luggage, pay for excess weight as needed and print the tag and stickers for the luggage. The luggage tag will be scanned near the independent delivery conveyors and from there the luggage will be sent to the belly of the plane.

In the coming days, the Authority plans to expand the check-in area for hand luggage also to improve queuing times. In the departure hall, additional technologies will be added to 24 hand luggage check stations, here too they will "expand the rapid use of the complex", according to the authority.

According to the organization, asOver 50% of passengers prefer to check in online. So in fact, with the addition of the independent kiosks - "Touch and Play", passengers will pass the security check only after check-in. The Airports Authority expects that this year 18 million passengers will pass through the airport and that next year the numbers are expected to increase to 24 million passengers. According to them, thanks to those who will switch to the digital processes, times and queues will be shortened even for those who will stand in lines and not check in at home. In fact, the processes of leaving the country will be carried out online and by digital means.

In recent months, it has been widely reported that the queues in Israel are long and no suitable solution has been found. Recently, Tzachi Zilberstein built an algorithm that will provide real-time information on the congestion and also a forecast for 72 hours ahead, with the help of an Internet service called "Mead Oder in Israel" .

Thanks for the DP.

Arrived at the airport at 8:20. Line was shorter than what I’ve experienced in the past, but it took over an hour to get through initial security. The Israelis were taken separately, and there was no movement on the line for a good 20 minutes.

It took another 45 minutes after the interview to check the bags. Since we were traveling with a stroller, they directed us to a different line when it was almost our turn on the regular line. This line was staffed by one agent who was giving everyone problems (carryon weight, luggage size – she sent a family with duffels to the oversized line, strollers missing the security tag). Part of the problem imho isn’t just staffing shortages, it’s the airline employees being penny wise and pound foolish. When it was my turn I kept her on the defensive by moving very quickly, so she didn’t weigh our single carryon nor did she check the security tag which wasn’t on the stroller.

X-ray and passport control was very quick; we made it to the concourse just over two hours before the flight and one hour before boarding. Luckily I had time to get Maariv and let our kid loose for a bit. I’d imagine has we done the recommended 3 hours we would’ve had a similar situation as @ae123 which would’ve been more stressful.

Is there currently a separate initial security line for Elal business?

I should add that they pulled from the line anyone on the earlier flight, so at least they didn't wait so long.

Offering free VOLUNTARY Covid-19 tests on arrival (I presume for Israelis only) starting August 24.

Just flew with El Al.
We received an email that we need to fill it out, which we did.
However, no one asked for it at the airport.

I hope this doesn't become mandatory again...
Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 24, Ben-Gurion International Airport will reinstate a service that most travelers probably didn't miss – PCR testing for people entering Israel.

The tests are being funded by the government and are voluntary, at least for now. The purpose of the program is to make PCR testing easily accessible for people entering the country ahead of winter, when COVID numbers are projected to spike.

In the first phase of the new rollout, testing will be carried out from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Later, testing will be available around the clock. Travelers who want to be tested can avail themselves of the service in the G zone of the arrivals hall after collecting their baggage.

Once incoming flights land, passengers will receive text messages from the Health Ministry encouraging them to be tested before leaving the airport.

Just flew EWR-TLV-EWR.
Very good experience.
Really liked the new planes - easier to stand, better overhead compartments, etc.
After waiting for check-in at TLV for a long time, they gave out water bottles & candy.
Also, no one bothered to weigh or check quantity of hand luggage - not in EWR nor in TLV.

If you flew Motzaei Shabbos the lines were probably much longer than what I had Sunday night.

But they probably moved much slower than yours.

I once flew on Motzaei Yom Kippur and the lines were literally through the door, and they kept the line moving at speeds I’ve never seen.
