Amazon Prime Rewards Visa vs. Prime Store Card
« on: July 05, 2022, 07:10:44 PM »
Note: I'm well aware that I could be getting more value out of these purchases by purchases Amazon gift cards at Staples with an Ink Cash card, but that's not really feasible in my current location. So, with that said:

I want to get one of these two cards before Prime Day, when I expect to be making a lot of Amazon purchases. (I don't plan on using the card for anything else.) The Rewards Visa currently offers a $200 GC as a signup bonus, whereas the Store Card only offers a $60 GC.

The Store Card Promo also mentions "extra 5%-15% in additional rewards on select promotional items," though, whereas the Rewards Visa only mentions "10% back or more on select products." So my question is does the store card actually ever give a higher amount back than the Rewards Visa, or is it just a difference of how they've worded the promotions? And if so, is it often enough to make it worth forfeiting the extra $140 GC?

I looked in the T&C of both cards, but this isn't spoken to.

Update: I spoke to two Amazon reps, one on chat and one on the phone, who both had no idea what I was talking about. The latter then transferred me to a Chase rep for some reason; he obviously didn't know either.

Googling didn't yield anything other than a couple of articles mentioning that the Store Card has rotating categories for the additional rewards.

I have no idea. Is there any way to find out beforehand? If I apply in the next day or two, I assume both would arrive on time.

How low are we talking? As long as it would never be too low for any single purchase - I obviously plan on always paying the thing off in full anyway.

I guess another consideration is that the Store Card is potentially better for 5/24 (according to what I've read that you can get a rep to not count them). I'm currently at 2/24, and the first of those won't fall off for another 11 months or so.

pay-off cycle can take close to a week.
possibly more relevant would be if you want to make multiple purchases on prime day
