Has anyone ever actually tried to apply a code in-branch to an account that was just opened online?

Just got this tweet from chase:

SMd chase and was told -- in writing -- that the coupon is valid, and my account is eligible to have it applied to it in a branch within 7 days

Worked like a charm.
Wife and I went into a branch today with IDs and had the coupon codes applied to both accounts and were given printouts detailing the conditions of the promo.

... We went into a different branch to the one we went into yesterday not wanting to get the attention of the guy who could not open accounts for us in-branch just in case he'd make issues (my guess is that he would most likely have been amused and happy to help, but didnt want to risk $600 just in case).
