BA Card cancellation-losing avios
« on: July 11, 2022, 11:04:46 AM »
I have a BA card and about 70,000 Avios and want to cancel it as I have no use for it and don't want to pay the AF. I called and asked about a downgrade option and they said there is none, and my best option is to transfer the balance to a different chase card and then cancel. They said if I do that, my Avios will expire in 30 days. Does this make sense? Does anyone have any better ideas? I didn't see this topic anywhere but I apologize if this was spoken about. Thank you very much!

Avios expire 36 months from your last earning or redemption. Closing the card has no effect on them.

Thank you! I thought so, but the agent had told me that so I was unsure. Do you happen to know if there is a no fee BA card? If not, does my plan seem the safest route in terms of affecting my credit score? I really appreciate your help!

what's the best way of keeping them active?
I haven't used it in a few years and have about 20k sitting assuming gonna expire soon.
Does booking a reward flight and then canceling it count as activity?
Common sense is not a gift, it is a punishment.
Because you have to deal with everyone who doesn't have it.
