Why have short sleeves become taboo for Yeshivish males?

With the tri-state in the midst of a major heat wave, I thought I would bring this up.

According to the new Yeshivish norm, the minute a boy becomes Bar Mitzvah, he will only ever wear long-sleeve button-down white shirts with very limited exceptions such as when playing sports.

I'm just trying to ask an innocent question without sparking debate as to why this is; this seems to have started at most 10-15 years ago. Indeed, just look at the old Camp Agudah videos.

They're worse than taboo - they're considered nerdy.

+100 This is the reason why. The more popular yeshivas, the guys are wearing the common names "brooks bros, CT, etc" and they dont have short sleeve (unless you are wearing it untucked, which the yeshiva guys arent). The smaller OOTish yeshivas you would find short sleeves more common as they dont care that much about their "style".
