Why have short sleeves become taboo for Yeshivish males?

Crazy how many have moved here this summer, but I can't believe how far away some are moving. That's what happens when they don't visit in the winter. Gonna be some big regrets in a few months when North Pole arrives.

i am not saying this is the reason but the following story may show there is some reason to wear long sleevs .
As a bochur i once spent around  a half an hour by r' chaim kanievsky zt"l one shabbos afternoon .During the time spent there i watched how r' chaim answered the many shailos posed to him. One of the people  came in a short sleeved t shirt .When they told r' chaim that he wants a bracha, R chaims response was "למה הוא ערום" (clearly reffering to the short sleeves. )

IME the switch to long sleeves (unlike the switch to white button down) is not about religion, it's about short being nerdy.
the most non-megusham guys still wear short sleeves

(additional reason: if it's hot and sweaty, and I'm wearing a jacket, i'd much rather the cotton shirt sleeve against my skin than the polyester jacket sleeve liner)

My older son (as far as one can get from being megusham) wears short sleeves (and my 10yo) but myself and second and third son wear long sleeves.

Was it the short sleeve or the lack of jacket?

There is no there, they're just moving 1.5+ miles away in all directions without thinking through the winter ramifications of that.
