An American sports bar has apologized for posting a meme on its social media account of Anne Frank comparing hot weather to an oven.The Atlantic Sports Bar & Restaurant in Tiverton, Rhode Island, shared the offensive meme containing a photo of the Dutch Holocaust diarist and Nazi murder victim over the weekend. The picture was captioned: “It’s hotter than an oven out there – and I should know!” ABC6 News reported.The bar included with the post the hashtag “#ohboy.”The post was removed after it caused massive outrage, with the restaurant apologizing and stating the meme was “incredibly inappropriate.”The bar said through an employee that the worker who shared the meme claimed to not know who Anne Frank was, according to the news outlet.“The post was poorly thought out and we realize that it was incredibly inappropriate and does not reflect our values as members of our community,” the bar said in a statement. “There is no excuse for the sharing of this post, and there is nothing we can do to rectify it, all we can do now is offer our deepest apology to those who were rightfully hurt by our actions."The bar added: “The Atlantic Restaurant prides itself on being a tolerant, inclusive and safe space for all people."They also said they would be “vigilant in vetting all social media posts to ensure that nothing like the events of this past week ever happen again.”
