American airlines TLV-JFK stranded in Rome

I was on AA flight 145 from TLV to JFK. During the flight, an elderly gentleman had an accident due to a stomach virus, and soiled himself. There was a smell but most passengers were sleeping. One lady started yelling about the smell and they decided to land the plane in Rome, citing an emergency illness. Problem is as soon as we landed, AA personnel are nowhere to be found. And the biggest shock is the guy who is sick is still walking around and waiting with us. Nobody knows where our luggage is that was fighting it going to be going on next can I how long were going to be waiting here karma and why we even lend it all together period is there anybody who could offer advice or guidance it's on the situation we have hundreds of passengers stranded here in Rome

Rumor is they are going to rebook us tomorrow morning a full 26 hours later. People are saying that they are going to happen hotel period is there any recourse for reimbursement in such a situation with such an extended delay? Can anyone offer guidance or advice? Everyone here is very confused and frustrated. AA clearly bungled this.

The only nonstops today seems to be on ITA. 
There's a 9:40am flight and 12:25pm  FCO to JFK

AA has a flight from London to EWR at 7:10 pm landing 10:00
there are several flights FCO to LHR over the day.


Others also have connecting flights. In order of departure:
Delta 9:20am
United 9:20am
Turkish 11:20am
United, BA 11:30am
Air Canada 11:30am
etc


Of course the prices are ridiculous, but maybe you can get AA to put you on something sooner.

Flight diverted, but after two hours on ground it took off again for JFK. Probably a medical emergency.
