I often played in Borgata. Won a couple pretty big tournaments (you can PM for more info if you're interested). Before I stopped playing pretty consistently, I was sitting at 5/10 and 10/25 NL.

nice. actually checked out the place with my wife but didn't sit. so I'm sure you have a nice little nest egg out away  :)

Well, I graduated, joined the workforce and started making more than I was making at poker, so I stopped for a bit.

When I went back to school... well, this time school had to take priority. Couldn't breeze through it like undergrad :)

Not including big tournament scores, very well into the five figures.

I still have the spreadsheets I used to calculate ROI and performance stats.

I was doing it for a while with the european roulette, averaging $100/hour, till I was kicked out.

Superflyer, i also thought its possible to make money with roulette. You can win a few times, but in the long run you will be down. You cant beat the bank, the odds are against you. Sorry to say, but whoever claims to be up in roulette and played alot is lying!
The only game you can honestly say, that you are up is poker as this is skill and has nothing to do with luck

Luck is absolutely a factor in poker.

Thanks for calling me a liar.

There are a couple of factors to consider.

You can use some calculations to improve the odds considerably in your favor.

Obviously sometimes I lost, but if playing without greed, and very disciplined, the losses are less than the gains on the long run.

Its simple math. red and black. you have a 50-50 chance of winning, so the green 0 makes sure its not a 50-50 anymore. The same with any number you have a 1/36 chance of winning if the 0 would not be there.
We can argue about this until tomorrow, at the end of the day the odds are against you. Sure you can play smart and minimize the chances of loosing, but you will always have less then 50% chances of winning, so in the longrun you will loose.

I didnt say you are lying, maybe your lucky streak lasted longer then others, but eventually you will loose... the same goes with blackjack, its impossible to beat the house. Yes, you can play smart, but you will always loose sooner or later

I also play poker and not, that luck can make you win very fast. If you have 2 outs and hit it you are lucky and won, but the players with the most skill win. Thats why by the WSOP and all other tournament mostly the same players make it to the top50 and are making big money in the long run. Everybody can win the WSOP with luck, but if a guy that has no skill plays 100 games against a good player with skill, the better guy will win 90 games

Blackjack.
+1. Even though that too has a (albeit much smaller) luck factor.
I love blackjack!

@chuchem: you would be right, if someone sits at a roulette playing every spin....

I'm not playing black/red, but to give you an example (yes I know this is a machloikes in the gemoro): if someone would wait to have 15x red or black before placing on one of those, the chance for it to keep on falling another 10x on the same color are way smaller than sitting at a roulette which had nicely balanced black/red alternations.

Btw: all games relying on just luck, I lose over and over.

Actually it is not always simple math. With an unbalanced wheel you can throw your math calculations out the window. Resorts in underdeveloped nations are prime examples to find these.

its like the guy who brings a bomb on to the plane because the odds of there being 2 bombs are smaller than 1

Thats a stupid idea. I also thought of that when I was younger, but it does not work. Every spin you once again have a 18/37 chance to win, so the odds are against you. no matter what happened before. No matter if you saw it hitting red 15 times before.

Roulette cant be beat, also not by you. If you have a way to beat it, then spend all day at a casino instead of dd.

I am sorry to pop your bubble, but you will loose at roulette like all others

This is not a machloikes, this is some not being able to grasp a mathematical concept.
