What company do you use? What do you pay? Do you recomend them? Do they also cover your jewlery, or you have a seperate policy?

Every company differs you're best bet is to call an agent that you trust and they will be able to get you on the best plan that best suites you're needs.
I actually just spoke to a friend that got a policy through Hanover he said they really cover alot of important things such as backups and jewlery (up to a certain amount and then you can pay pay more for extra coverage).

Backups?

Can you recommend an agent?

sounds great but you really have to know all the ins and outs for example there's a chance that it will only cover jewelry that gets lost only as long as it was lost in you're home.....

I just needed the most basic of policies to cover my fiance's engagement ring, until we get married. $319/year for 15k in coverage and 10k in jewelry with Geico who uses Travellers - was cheaper than insuring her 13.5k ring outright as a special pre-agreed item in our case (without any renters insurance) and this way we are covered up to 10k for something happening to ANY jewelry.
Had to post because I literally just did this 2 days ago.
There are so many factors that determine the premium though. These might be unique to apartment buildings but they asked:
Address (I'm sure they look at crime stats in the neighborhood or something)
Age of building?
Alarm/security system?
Dead bolt locks on doors?
Indoor sprinklers in building?
Smoke detectors?
Fire alarms? Extinguishers?
They run your credit too (soft pull), etc etc etc etc etc.

When i got my renters insurance, jewelry was not covered.
In order to get coverage for it, you needed to get a rider on the policy, which involved having the jewelry appraised, and then i believe they wanted to charge me around $20 per $1,000 appraised

depending on how much jewelry your looking to cover, it may make sense to do it this way, or to get a more expensive policy that would cover jewelery as well ( i.e without a rider for jewelry, i pay around 200/year for coverage )

that being said, i did not shop around much at the time, so i am sure there are good deals out there, but a basic policy will not cover jewelry

Did you do some research before you took out the plan?
IN other words why did you choose Geico ?

No real research. I just picked them because I use them for car so I got a discount for that and it's not like it's all that much $$ either way. Sorry if that's not the DDF way

Traveler's gave me very good renters rates.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

I don't think you can compare since Dan lives in a different area and might have different coverage needs.
