This is rewriting history. There were tens of millions of N95 masks in the US when COVID broke out. Guess what Fauci did to ensure hospitals had enough masks in case COVID reached the US. Absolutely nothing. US stockpile was allowed to dwindle down to nothing, Fauci did nothing to stop companies from exporting masks to China. I know people who sold tons of N95's to China. To cover up for his incompetence, Fauci intentionally lied that masks were useless in a failed attempt to retain the precious few masks they had remaining in the US. If lying was ever a good strategy to retain masks, he missed that train by a month. Afterwards the only thing he gained was the distrust of literally half the country, and you can't blame them.

His lies about masks were extremely successful. I walked through Cornell with a mask at end of February (when COVID was spreading untested and undetected), doctors literally laughed at me in the elevator claiming that masks were unnecessary.

Testing for COVID was an absolute disaster as well, and used a coverup to claim COVID was non-existent in the US. While it took South Korea and Germany 1-2 weeks to test thousands per day, US was at a couple dozen tests per day 5 weeks later.

N95s were already nearly impossible to find in the US by the end of January. I don't think anyone knew at that point we'd be facing a worldwide pandemic, versus something localized in China as has happened before.

I was ordering them wholesale at pre-covid prices in late February, was able to get like 5,000. I spoke with dozens of distributors and missed out on hundreds of thousands, possibly millions that were just sold recently. My friend sold hundreds of thousands during February through Amazon, most were going to people shipping to China, and there were others like him.

I ordered some in January on Amazon from 3p sellers and direct. They never shipped.
Local stores were all out.

He actively discouraged researching links between the pandemic origin and the Wuhan lab.
He downplayed links between the NIH and the Wuhan lab.
He lied about masking, which made people doubt things he said later.
He turned science into politics and made follow the science a catchphrase.
He made people suspect their medical advisors of being political rather than scientific.

That being said, for a good period of time he was an effective counterweight to Trump saying it would all magically go away and it was comforting to hear him speak and reassure the nation during our darkest times in March 2020 when things looked very bleak.

Our government has failed to devote the resources to investigating it. Or they purposely have done so to avoid ruffling China's feathers or avoid showing that the NIH funded the research.

I do think he's a bit of a boogieman at this point, like Soros and Gates, but Americans aren't keen about so much power being held by unelected officials so I'm not surprised at all the hate.
