As far as coping mechanisms go, DDF isn’t that bad…

Does a moderator here need to be licensed as a professional therapist?  :P

A friend got the Yukon xl to be there family car when they had their 7th, since it has the front middle seat. Once they realized it had no shoulder belt (keep only) and no airbag, they went back to a regular 8 seat minivan (and drive 2 cars on the rare occasions they need it). Good move, since they're due with their 8th anyway before the lease end.

I have a 9 seater suburban. I avoid using that front middle seat whenever possible for the reasons you just gave, but if I want to drive all my kids somewhere on my own that's the only option. Driving a 12 or 15 passenger van would not be safer, I'm afraid.

When the entire family has to go somewhere together we either take two cars or get a ride for one or two kids

used to know people installing a (back facing) bench in the trunk of an (extended wheelbase) minivan. does that still exist? is it safer?
