Removal as an authorized user
« on: January 11, 2012, 11:29:17 AM »
I just removed myself as an authorized user from 2 of my parents cards that were carrying debt and affecting my utilization rate

I was just wondering how fast these changes would be reflected on my credit report

i would like to apply for a few cards, but my current utilization rate may make that problematic, despite the rest  of my credit being great

Does activity as an authorized user affect your credit score? You just provide a name to be authorized user (no ssn) - who is linking it to your report?

1) Yes, being an AU on an account can affect your credit,
2) Some issuers require a SSN, and
3) Even those that don't, can link you up by address, etc.

Chase Freedom and Chase Sapphire just require a name. If I add "John Smith", how will they know which one? I can't see how your credit could be affected if they didn't take your social... I could be wrong but can't see it.

Are you 100% certain about this?

Am I certain its possible? Yep.

Am I certain it happens with every issuer who does not ask for SSN? Nope.

I suppose it is possible if they take the name and address of the requested AU (Chase doesn't), but even then, why wouldn't they just go ahead and ask for your AU's ssn? Sometimes people have multiple addresses, people move, there could be a typographical error... this is exactly why ssn's were created, to uniquely identify every citizen.

Doesn't seem so probable. Aren't credit reports organized with ones SSN? It would seem illogical that these reports would be so popular if the same name from the same address would bring down a score. Whats would George Foreman's sons do?

not to be to pushy, but does anyone have an answer for my original question of how long it would typically take for these to be removed from my credit report ?

That's kind of scary, TBH. All someone needs is my name and they can make me an AU on their card (not that they would have incentive to do such a thing, but still) and it can impact my credit?

It's been discussed many times here. Seem that if enough info matches it will show up on the AU's report even without a ssn.
I just removed myself as an authorized user from 2 of my parents cards that were carrying debt and affecting my utilization rate

I was just wondering how fast these changes would be reflected on my credit report

i would like to apply for a few cards, but my current utilization rate may make that problematic, despite the rest  of my credit being great
I also had such items on my report pulling me down, eventually to totally get rid of them I had to dispute the with the bureaus. If they don't disappear soon you might wan't to do the same.

That's why there is an option to dispute items on your CR with each of the three bureaus.

thanks
now with my credit score in the high 700's and no history of any late payments, would a utilization rate of around 50% drastically hurt me, or would the other factors make up for it ?

Using words like "drastically" is ambiguous.

But, yes, having a utilization % of 50% will hurt your score all else being equal, IMHO.

I believe the consensus is anything over 25-33% will be detrimental.

enough to get me declined for the better cards ?

as a side note, i was approved a few months back for the AmEx platinum card, so if i was approved for that, is it likely i would have issues from other cards?
or was that card easy to get approved for
