How is that downplaying?
The only reason why one would have to kasher their dishes is because there was treif involved. If there was treif involved why are they not telling us there was treif involved. Am I crazy?

If they are recommending people kasher their pots, they have info to share.
They may have info, but not necessarily ready to share yet i.e. there may be follow up questions based on that info that they are looking to answer before sharing more.

You're not crazy. You're just young and impatient. You don't just put things out there without verifying. Let them do their job (and also figure out and let us know what went wrong here and how to fix it so it doesn't happen again).

Crazy? Maybe all they have is suspicions/concerns at this point and kashering utensils was still recommended by their posek?

They should say that then.

Someone in the OU once told me that I should never rely that an owner doesn't have the key to their own store.

That makes sense, but keys to the fridge/freezer? Also understand that mashgichim are supposed to track the in/out inventory to see if it makes sense, review receipts etc.

Would like to hear what the typical standard is - @moko

If I understand Rav Reuvain Feinsteins opinion correctly, he feels no tshuva or even kashering pots is necessary in these situations. Unless the equation is changed by the owner not being Jewish. In any case as pointed out he’s a דעת יחיד in that.
I believe kashering would be required. Although you did nothing wrong by eating what the torah allowed you to eat, the dishes are still trief.

I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

They told you everything you need to know.
They said there was an "intense and careful investigation" into the restaurant. But no mention of the conclusions or findings of said investigation, all they say is that they are no longer certifying it.

Then they said if you used your utensils with food from that restaurant you should kasher it.

How is that everything you need to know?

Upon review, my sources were unverified about the kashering part.

Basically they believe there was unkosher served for at least 6 months, enough so to require kashering your utensils. What else is needed to know

If the guy was serving treif the books might be cooked too, you’d have to be able to confirm invoices with suppliers.

Of course. The forensic investigation in JNB took forever and a day, and I don't think they managed to figure it all out. One of the warning signs was a local butcher saying there's no way he had supplied enough meat to cater the amount that was being served.

Yes. I was there a few weeks ago (yay me) and it definitely wasn't on the same level it used to be. Service was terrible and food was meh (ribs were raw). It only reopened for seating within the last 2 months.
