Rabbi is not the English equivalent of Reb. Reb is not a rabbinic title.

Maybe it's just one of those pacific things they would of known better were they by class more.
Just because you say it with confidence doesn’t make it true. What’s your source? In the Lakewood vernacular it most certainly means that (which could explain the discrepancy in the ads).

“By” class should be “in” class

It is a long established tradition that two letter words aren't that important and can be ignored.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Someone I know who worked as a mashgiach was told he has to call himself Rabbi on the job or else they won't respect his authority as much
That's what happened in Manalapan, it all started when someone called the Mashgiach Mr., and you know how these things work, one thing led to the next.

I don't think a source is needed, however Google suggests Reb is "a traditional Jewish title or form of address, corresponding to Sir, for a man who is not a rabbi (used preceding the forename or surname).
'I never met Reb Zecharia'"

Whereas Rabbi is "a Jewish scholar or teacher, especially one who studies or teaches Jewish law.
a person appointed as a Jewish religious leader."

Of course in your locale, things may be different. But by default, Rabbi is not the translation of Reb.

To me, who perceives the word “Rabbi” as a friendly way of showing respect to someone

Well yes, this is the exact premise others and I have a problem with. Words still have meaning, even in 2022.

I am not a Rabbi, so when you call me one that's just ridiculous and/or condescending and patronizing.

You didn’t define Rabbi the honorific, only Rabbi the noun. I agree that I wouldn’t refer to everyone as “a Rabbi”. Interestingly, Google does bring the etymology of the word which comes from the Hebrew Rav which means Master (also the origin of Mister).

I’m not sure why Lakewood doesn’t have the authority to translate Lithuanian Yiddish into English as much as anyone else. How would you translate “Reb” into English?
Well yes, this is the exact premise others and I have a problem with. Words still have meaning, even in 2022.

I am not a Rabbi, so when you call me one that's just ridiculous and/or condescending and patronizing.
What would you say is the English translation of “R’ (Reb) Something Fishy”?

I wouldn’t refer to you as “a Rabbi” but I would have* referred to you as “Rabbi Something Fishy”. Why is your meaning more accurate than mine?

*Until now, of course. I’m not looking to misgender anyone.

If I called you Sir would you be upset because you haven’t been Knighted?

Dunno but the entire Lakewood calls him Reb Malkiel

In Igros Moshe the title ראבייס is used derogatorily.
