Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

New Jersey law going into effect 9/1/2015

is this a good deal?
http://www.amazon.com/Evenflo-Tribute-Convertible-Seat-Saturn/dp/B006PB2B6O/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1445787095&sr=1-1&keywords=convertible+car+seat
Looks like a good price...  I have it...  I would recommend one that can recline, so that the child can sleep more comfortable.

What car seat is safe for a 9 month old that can both forward face (for BA flight which requires forward facing) and also rear face for use in a car/taxi?

That's what "convertible" is.

If you're talking about for travel with a convertible car seat, that would be the GoGo Babyz Travelmate. If you're talking about transporting an infant car seat everywhere, that would be the UBV with an adapter. Or maybe you meant something else?

Gogo Babyz.  Thanks!
If you're getting one, make sure it's the newer version. I got a pair on Craigslist and they were the old version, I don't recommend it.

From DDMS:
"We wheel the kids through the airport and right to their seat on the plane thanks to 2 GoGo Babyz Travelmates that fit into the overhead bins."

Although Dan goes to the front, not the back.

I remembered that
"We wheel the kids through the airport and right to their seat on the plane thanks to 2 GoGo Babyz Travelmates that fit into the overhead bins."
but
Dan goes to the front, not the back.

I only did it once, and it wheeled all the way back with some maneuvering. One way was on Frontier and the other on Spirit, both in 3-3 configurations (don't remember which planes), so I doubt the aisles get much narrower. The restricting factor is more likely to be the width of the car seats you're using them with.

I think I used a Britax (Boulevard maybe) and a Scenera.
