Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

Looking for the best car seat, bought the  Britax Marathon ClickTight originally, however found it very bulky (interfering with back of drivers seat in SUV) and also when rear facing very difficult to recline without unblocking.

Now im looking for another one, so many options. Seems like the Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat people love, also the maxi cosi I know a few people that have.

If anyone can point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

If more details are needed -

budget - upto $350
features - easy to get kid strapped in
easy to adjust the straps
easy to clean (machine wash)

And I think that's it, TIA!
Been very happy with Maxi Cosi Pria 70. Has all four features you listed. Also you can pull off the fabric part to wash it without unbuckling the whole car seat from the car = really nice feature.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Any reason not to get the newer maxi cosi 85 model? or the 85 max?

also, what edge does that have over the graco? thanks!

I don't know about newer since I bought mine a couple years ago. I didn't get the 85 because by the time my kid is 70 pounds I sure hope they are not sitting in a carseat :)

I didn't compare it to graco either, I really bought it because someone recommended it to me. One nice thing is that to adjust the shoulder straps you don't need to unthread the buckle - there's a head piece that lifts up/down and the straps go through there so it's really easy to adjust. I don't know if the graco has that.

Looking for suggestions:
To get a car seat that is
1.lightweight
2.Goes in/ out of cars easily
3. Can work without the base,
4. Need to use it to fit onto a stroller as well.

Looking at the Maxi Cosi Mico Max 30. Any reason for or against getting it? Any other lightweight suggestions?

Doona?

Unless you need it for a full size stroller base.

Just for travel? I've found the Cosco Scenera to be light for carrying through airports but personally I'd buy a better carseat for regular day-to-day usage.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a narrow booster seat with a back?

Are you planning on using it with a travel system? Keeping it in the car?
What's important to you? lightweight? length of use (Xin1)? etc.?

I would say Graco LX lite. You can get it for cheaper than that. And it's even cheaper on Ebay (New).
It may be worthwhile to get it as part of a travel system (with a stroller that it clicks into)
