Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

New Jersey law going into effect 9/1/2015

I wouldn't go by that, it's almost like this one printed on a toothbrush wrapper: "dentists recommend that you change your toothbrush every three months."

We are very happy with our Britax B-Safe.  When purchased with the Britax B-Agile stroller (similar to the CityMini),  the package is 25% off at most places.  We like that the stroller is very maneuverable, and that it weighs only 17 pounds.  We just skipped buying a travel umbrella stroller.  The B-Safe car seat has an advantage of fitting in most cars.  For example, most larger car seats wouldn't fit in my wife's Ford Focus because they are too big.
Also very happy with the b   -safe.
However we did not keep the b-agile stroller. Too big for our trunk and to hard for my wife to push
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

Looking for an infant car seat that is not to bulky because it's going to be moved in and out of the car a lot. Also want it to be pretty light because I am going to be bringing it up and down 3 flights of stairs. Want a good quality and willing to pay a little extra. TIA

I had a graco. I actually borrowed it, but in stores it was 100 (before any sales) i personally think its useless to spend a lot on an infant seat bec 5 mints later you basically need a regular car seat, in which i would say spend the 150 then on something bec it'll last you iyh for a good couple of years.

I had a Graco Snugride, it's awful compared to the Chicco Keyfit 30.
Chicco all the way.  And there's no reason your kid can't last 12 months+ in a Keyfit 30.

I just bought one a few days ago from BBB with a 20% off coupon.  Its great.

Maxi Cosi is also good.  I asked rep in BBB about all three.  Graco is very universal in strollers thats why so many people want them.  Maxi Cosi and Chicco are similar but Maxi is little lighter and Chicco could hold more weight...(last longer).
It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

The Chicco is just a breeze and effortless to latch into cars and strollers.
You have to try both to understand.

Of course not because the Snugride is 22 pounds versus 30 for the Chicco.
The longer they can stay in the infant seat the better IMHO.

sorry, of course not-what? the snugride being the lightest out?

also i bought the new car seat and it stays in the same car, same place, and doesnt leave so i didnt mind switching to a more heavier clunkier car seat. plus it was a CR recommended

Of course your baby grew out of it as you bought a carseat with a small capacity.
Rafi grew out of his Graco under 6 months!

You can see how CR feels on Graco versus Chicco via the links in the Wiki.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Ratings give the Chicco a 92 and the Graco a 70.
