Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

Huge fan of the Chicco Nextfit!

Does anyone know if this is compatible with any type of travel wheel system. I'm flying and would love to bring the Chico along, however it is extremely heavy... Any suggestions?

Because it's pretty crappy and hard to properly secure.
It does the job in a pinch but it can't compare with the Britax or Chicco.

Has good safety ratings. Secures fine for me with latch system

Seems to have much more give in LATCH than other carseats.  Also doesn't seem nearly as comfortable for an extended drive.

I guess we'll agree to disagree then.

+1 It's crap! I have Chicco NextFit and Seneca and there is no comparison.
I'm doing a lot of driving on my trip and the Seneca is not comfortable enough for the long drive. What are my other options?

Chicco KeyFit is amazing for everyday use. Easy to install, easy to put  the kid in and cool looking.

Does the nextfit work at all like the key fit 30?
1-Is it removable from the base (to leave base in car always) ?
2-Does it connect to strollers with the chicco connectors?
3-Does is connect to the keyfit travel system?

No, no and no. It's a convertible car seat, not an infant car seat. Generally speaking, only infant car seat have the features you mentioned.

A) Accroding to most, yes
B) I am not sure but I know for the Uppababy you need the Chicco adapter.

With 2 deals on the main page I'm trying to decide which convertible car seat to get.
I thought it was just going to be a decision between Britax (which I've used in the past) and Chicco (which seems like a nice change).
Now that Dan posted the Recardo deal I started looking into that as well.

Not really ready to start using a convertible yet, but expecting to need one by early spring, and the prices on all three seem pretty good now.  So I'm thinking of buying one now.

Any thoughts?

Chicco NextFit  ($210)?

Britax Marathon 70-G3 ($199)?

Recaro ProRIDE ($220-60)?
