Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

I hope I'm not repeating a previous question - I didn't read through the whole thread, but skimmed it and didn't see this discussed.
Anyone know anything about the Eddie Bauer Alpha omega elite deluxe 3 in 1?

I have two older versions of the alpha omega elite.  They were on clearance at Costco for $85. They can be used rear facing until 35 lbs, but the seat is pretty tall and doesn't fit in our cars too well, so I didn't use it too much rear facing. I use graco my rides for rear facing until 2 years. They are really comfy. Forward facing is great, and if you are using latch to hold it in, when you have a bigger kid jump in the car they can just use it as a high back booster with the seatbelt. They will have to sit on the harness straps though. The one drawback is that it is a pia to remove the cover to clean. Don't put your carsick kid in it.

7 months.

Maybe I misunderstood, but PLEASE don't put your 7 month old in a forward facing car seat.  Even if a baby is huge and heavy and tall, their neck and spine are not supported forward facing and chas v'shalom could get badly hurt.

Missed out on the Chicco Keyfit 30 deal on Amazon a while back.

Anyone have an invoice I can price to BBD or a way to get this cheaper than MSRP - 20% BBD coupon?

Thanks!

http://blog.gracobaby.com/2013/03/22/a-new-way-of-connecting-click-vs-classic/

What they say is that in the old ones, you have to click it into the base and also set up the straps at the foot of the car seat, whereas in the new ones it's one click and done. I've never used the straps though, so to me there's no difference (more of a ploy to boost sales).

Thanks! So with the old/Classic, it's still click in and out when putting it into the car or into the snap n go/stroller adapter? Do you ever need to used the straps?

Correct, you shouldn't need to use straps at all, especially if you have the Graco stroller frame.

Similarly wouldn't need to use the straps for Uppababy adapter or snap n go?

Thanks!

As far as I know, if you're not using a Graco base/stroller/frame/etc it doesn't matter which you get. Which means officially you're probably supposed to use the straps as additional security, but most people don't bother.

I'm traveling to LA and would like to rent a convertible. Is this possible with the graco snugride 35. I have a hard time getting into smaller cars.

Keyfit,
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/42033
Thanks.
I know there are accessories that attach the car seat to the stroller, but my wife said there is some kind of car seat that comes with a very lightweight and easy to fold stroller frame. Possibly made by Graco. Any idea what she's talking about?
