Shabbos Helpful Apps/Technology
« on: October 22, 2022, 10:25:06 PM »
Hi, I moved into a new apartment and am trying to set up a "Shabbas helpful smart home." I'm looking for apps or technology to help me with:

1. Turning my lights on/off based on a timer. [Is Phillips Hue the solution?]
2. An alarm clock that will ring at specified time and will stop without me needing to hit anything.
3. Keeping my Blech on a timer (preferably one that can help with YT too - so not just a 24 hour dial)

Also, any other helpful Shabbos technologies/hacks are appreciated.   😊

Thanks so much in advance!!

There are two threads you may find helpful.

This one has links to other threads that deal with halachic aspects of smart homes, and this is the general smart homes thread.

1. Any smart bulb / smart switch can work. Generally, Phillips is considered way overpriced.
2. Using your phone (with the proper app) can easily work for that.
3. Your looking for a smart plug (be sure the amperage is sufficient).

2. I use "Shabbat Alarm Clock" on iphone.
I like that you can test the audio when setting (in case phone is in silent mode or audio is on low), and that you can set multiple days and times (for multi day yom tov).
The downside is that app needs to be manually opened each week and manually turned on, each week. I think phone needs to be plugged in as well.
