Amex downgrade policy

I received an offer in September 2021, to upgrade from the blue cash to the blue cash preffered, and the first 12 months will have no annual fee.

In September  2020 I was charged a membership fee of $57.

I called CS and they were clueless why I was charged $57 and not the full $95, even if it's pro rated by the calender year I should be charged less.

The agent also said that if I downgrade the card after 30 days the fee was charged I will not receive a prorated refund of the annual fee.

Can anybody confirm if this is correct?

IINM Amex only prorates if you close the account, not downgrade it.

Nope. The complete opposite. I called again and indeed I was right, that I will be getting a prorated refund if i downgrade, the first rep was such soooo clueless beyond my understanding. She gave me any any info I asked her wrong.

It's absurd that rep can sometimes be sooo undereducated that even by mistake they won't give you accurate info.
