National Car lawsuit?
« on: November 06, 2022, 10:02:15 PM »
Story: I rented a midsize car from National using a corp. code posted on a bloggers site as a University of Michigan code for fraternity members. I had enough affiliation to justify that. When I got to the take the vehicle the manager let me take a minivan as I was a EX member as well as add an additional driver for free. For a total of around $1300.
Well.. the vehicle had damage and after returning it I got an email from the location saying my account was frozen onto the DNR list and they were adjusting my rental to a total of $4000 for the increased rate, upgraded vehicle and additional driver, unless I can prove my affiliation to "Big Ten" who the corporate code was named under. It seems that that is the U of M's football team.
I tried reaching out to National, I tried disputing the extra charge with Chase all without success. Someone advised me now to file in small claims court...

Anyone have some advise?

Why don't you just show them your affiliation?

I would assume it was enough to justify for his conscious, not for proof.

I did once speak to a manager in the beginning. He required a proof of employment by Big Ten. There is a double problem here. First the discrepancy between the name on the corp code to the real name behind it. ie. when I entered the corp code it showed as U of M and they asked for Big Ten. Second, they wanted proof of employment rather than affiliation.

Maybe try filing a complaint on the BBB
https://www.bbb.org/us/fl/orlando/profile/auto-renting-and-leasing/national-car-rental-0733-90141240
NVM they aren't registered anymore

I don't think you have a claim, they did not mislead you, you misled yourself

I acknowledge my mistake with the corp code and would agree to pay full price for a vehicle. My issue is that they charged me an additional $1500 for things that were free as a Executive member. I'm at a loss of how to deal with it.
