You are adding a bunch of caveats now but it’s undisputed that there was interference. Considering 2016 was closer than 2020, largely because of low turnout, it’s very likely that it affected the outcome somewhat (certainly more than any 2020 “fraud” claims).

Obviously if the president knew/was involved it would be dealt with through impeachment, although that would not put the other candidate in office. But I am asking about the more interesting hypothetical, where it was an unrelated third party who did it without the knowledge of the ones who benefited.

I am specifically asking about a hypothetical situation, so that we can discuss the idea, rather than getting caught up in a discussion about Mike Lyndell and Lin Wood.

CMIIW but doesn't the electoral college vote in the president, making the result of the popular election sort of moot? I guess it would depend which state the hack was in and what their guidelines/laws on how the electoral voters are supposed to act are... Although that's probably from the technical angle, practically the people would be outraged and demand one of the above options or do-over or something.

That's exactly my question. By the rules of the current system the person who was sworn in is the president, and there is no way to do a "redo."

I am asking what can be done within that system to correct for a clear case where the only reason they got their was criminal actions of a third party.
